The cartoons published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten on 30 September 2005 caricaturing Mohammed have become a quasi-global affair. Reproduced from the original limited Danish circulation into more widely understood languages, the caricatures have become accessible to a global audience. The global grapevine has been at its most efficient. Discussions surrounding the production and re-publication of these caricatures have spread exponentially. Tragically, demonstrations and protests in Muslim countries have resulted in some deaths.
